Continuing with the Irish Chain Twist Quilt-a-long which is being hosted by Melissa at Happy Quilting, this week’s task was putting together the Improvisational Piecing Blocks…
We had to trim the blocks we made last week…
(note my use of masking tape on my ruler to make sure I measured each block correctly!)
… and then sew each newly sized 5 1/2″ square to make the wonky X blocks, yes they are supposed to look wonky which is actually fun to do as you are so used to having to get everything lined up exactly!
We did some more chain stitching as well, which I’m loving…
Once again these blocks came together really quickly (admittedly I’m only making the Wall Hanging so I don’t have quite as many to do as those making the larger quilts!).
When I first looked at joining this quilt-a-long and saw the design I really wasn’t sure if I’d be able to do it given that I haven’t made too many quilts to dates! And would I be able to keep up with each of the weekly tasks? However, those early reservations were not necessary. Melissa breaks down the process into completely manageable and easy to understand tasks.
I have to say that I am really enjoying this quilt-a-long and would highly recommend it if you fancy joining in!

You are smart to do the wall hanging size. I'm always getting in over my head with too many larger quilts at once.
You have very nice photos and the blocks look great.

Thank you Lisa :0) Yes I didn't want to start with anything too much to handle for my first QAL, I wanted to be able to enjoy it and not worry about it!
